Welcome to Temple Sholom
Temple Sholom has come a long way from its humble beginnings in members' homes, vacant stores, services in a tent and a basement recreation room made available by the developers of Glen Oaks Village. We have grown not only building-wise but in the services we provide as a stronghold of Reform Judaism in the surrounding communities of Floral Park, Bellerose, New Hyde Park, Little Neck, and Bayside.
As we celebrated our 50th Anniversary recently, Temple Sholom has remained the basis of Reform Judiasm's strength and stability. Temple Sholom was chartered by the Union of Hebrew Congregations in 1949 to serve a threefold purpose - as a house of prayer, a house of study, and a house of communal gathering and thus fulfill our prayers to be a "sanctuary of Israel".
The members of Temple Sholom are deeply conscious of our responsibility to perpetuate Judaism and pass on our Judaic heritage to future generations. This is our primary role and to accomplish this, we are always developing new programs - religious, spiritual, cultural and educational to meet the expectations of all those affiliated with us. We provide a Jewish education for our children from our "Milk N' Honey" program which is for pre-schoolers through B'Nai Mitzvah and Kabbalat Torah. We offer varied and intellectually stimulating educational programs for adults. Our Shabbat Services are spiritually uplifting and through them, we try to instill the ideals of our faith. It is our fervent hope that our prayers and songs will lead us to commitment to acts of caring, generosity and service.
Our Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Choir, Youth Choir, Sunday Breakfasts, and Leisure Club programs provide a wide spectrum of activities for every taste and inclination. For more than ten years, we have been participating with the North Shore Institute of Adult Jewish Studies to provide another outlet for high caliber Judaic study.
Through the years, Temple Sholom has always been mindful that
our Reform Judaism must be sensitive to the changes of our times while
preserving the essence of Judaism and keeping alive the enduring truths of our
heritage. We welcome all who come to us and we look forward to your association
and participation.
